Yesterday, July 12th, marked the day when ‘Indian 2’ was released in three different languages, bringing director Shankar and actor Kamal Haasan back together. In an exclusive interview with India Today, the maverick director delved into various topics ranging from his inception of Kamal Haasan’s cinematic universe to their partnership on not just “Indian 2” but also on its sequel, “Indian 3.”

Yesterday was the grand arrival of “Indian 2” on screen, a project that has been in the making for almost four years. Shankar helms this Shankar-directed sequel to the 1996 cult classic drama, with Kamal Haasan playing Senapathi yet again. Anirudh Ravichander is the maestro behind the music composition. The stellar cast, apart from Rakul Preet Singh and SJ Suryah, includes Siddharth, Bobby Simha, Priya Bhavani Shankar, Vivek, Samuthirakani, Nedumudi Venu, Kalidas Jayaraman, Gulshan Grover, and Delhi Ganesh—all playing pivotal roles. Interestingly enough, another sequel is already in the pipeline: six months down the line, it will grace theaters since filming and editing have drawn to a close.
